HER
“Hello!!!” She exclaimed with anxiety. She didn’t know
who it was at the other end. A young boy was asking her how she was doing.
“Pretty good”, she replied cheerfully. As they talked more about themselves,
the typical way things had unfolded for her and the fraternities of her life,
he realized fifteen minutes were over.
His grandma had again lost her
memory. He was dejected by the fact that she won’t remember any word of the
heart-warming conversation they just had. She, on the other hand, kept smiling
while looking at the four empty walls of the hospital room.
For a person who had gathered
immense experience for the past 87 years, yet who couldn’t gather the memories
of those experiences owing to the disease her mind had caught, it was indeed a
blessing in disguise! She was no longer deluded by the quirks of humanity, the
results of expectations and the consequences of her actions. The memory
blockages in her brain saved her from the turmoil of betrayal, exasperation and
hurt that life offers as a supplementary diet. Every fifteen minutes she lived
another world inexplicably beautiful only to her. The sadness of otherwise
living confined to the four walls except for occasional evening walks turned
into an everyday adventure.
That is why when she talked to that
kind hearted young man, she was elated with joy. Unlike others still caught in
the daily random humdrum of life, she surpassed all worldly things. That’s why her
face depicted an inner peace and calm that only she could feel.
Wow! A good read and a great perspective to that life!
